New operating software released for QEMSCAN™

Intellection Corporation today announced a new software version for the QEMSCAN™ mineralogical analysis solution – iDiscover™ v4.1.

Intellection's QEMSCAN™ is an advanced mineral analysis system based on technology pioneered by the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and in use around the world by geosciences laboratories in the mining, oil and gas, and utilities sectors.

QEMSCAN™ is a total solution for materials characterization and automated mineralogical analysis. QEMSCAN™ is designed for unattended high productivity analysis of minerals, rocks and materials for the mining industry.

At the heart of this solution is iDiscover™, the software suite designed to control the QEMSCAN™ eBeam hardware and provide a comprehensive solution capable of identifying most ore and rock forming minerals in milliseconds.  The iDiscover™ software suite not only controls the operation of the eBeam hardware but also analyzes the data generated to provide information about the chemical and mineral composition of the sample.

This advanced analytic software suite provides information and tools designed for use by geologists, mineralogists, metallurgists, chemical engineers and others in applications ranging from exploration, though production to remedial and environmental monitoring.

The latest version of iDiscover™ brings together a range of new features, performance improvements and increased software stability in a number of areas.

One of the key areas of focus in v4.1 is in the field of bright phase searching – the ability to rapidly identify trace amounts of precious minerals in a sample.

iDiscover™ allows automated identification, and if necessary, rejection, of trace amounts of precious minerals in tailings, feeds and concentrates. The enhancements in v4.1 assist in the automated rejection invalid particles (“false positives”). This improves productivity by allowing a faster and more accurate process with less need for manual adjustments.

Improvements in data management and use of advance Microsoft .NET® capabilities have lead to benchmark testing results that confirmed significant improvements in operation allowing similar tasks to be completed faster.

iDiscover V4.1 also introduces a range of new reporting and data management features that improve the interactive approach of the software and the ease of use.

The new Grain Analysis function provides details about individual grains and their relationship to their host particles. This flexible analysis functionality allows users to identify and categorise grains; calculate total number; modal composition and their averages size per sample.

Another new capability is the Mass-balanced Modal recovery reporting. This feature is designed to allow users access to information used to optimize recovery process and displays the Grade, Recovery, Chemical Assay and QEMSCAN™ Assay sections as a single table.

Intellection Corporation, VP sales, service and support, Ulrick Russ said iDiscover™ has always led the automated mineralogy analytics field with leading edge technology, delivered with an intuitive, easy-to-use interface.

“With the launch of v4.1 this already good analysis tool looks even better”, he said.  “The beauty of this system is that it offers effective, accurate, and importantly, repeatable data and analysis in an automated manner which doesn’t rely on human management. The productivity gains this offers are quite impressive.’’

iDiscover™ v4.1 was officially launched at SME (Society for Mining Metallurgy and Exploration Inc) in Denver Colorado this week.  The software is available as either a stand alone PC based application used for data analysis or as a package software suite of the QEMSCAN™ mineralogical solution.
