Intellection signs distributor agreement with Carl Zeiss, South Africa

Leading providers of integrated solutions for the automated, quantitative evaluation of minerals, rocks and man-made material, Intellection Pty Ltd today announced that it has appointed Carl Zeiss Pty. Ltd., South Africa as their distributor in southern Africa.

The agreement will see Carl Zeiss South Africa responsible for sales and service of the QEMSCAN® analytical solutions in South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Swaziland and Botswana.  The agreement will be launched at the upcoming MEI Flotation 07 conference, being held in Cape Town from November 6 to 9 2007. Intellection and Carl Zeiss, South Africa will have a joint presence at the conference including a trade booth.

This announcement further cements the existing strategic relationship between the companies for the development and supply of Carl Zeiss SMT Ltd’s Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) for use in the QEMSCAN® automated quantitative mineralogy system.

“This is an important agreement that increases our global coverage and support,” said Calvin Treacy, CEO of Intellection.

“The Southern Africa market is very important for Intellection, with a large number of QEMSCAN® solutions already in use in the region. This arrangement provides our existing and future customers in the area with direct, local support from a long-standing and well-respected provider of high technology solutions and services.”

One of the important aspects for Intellection was in securing an arrangement with an organisation that had a thorough knowledge of the mining industry in the region.

“The Mining industry is an important one in Southern Africa, and at Carl Zeiss, we have an unrivalled track record of delivering solutions to this sector”, said Paul Adderley, Managing Director of Carl Zeiss South Africa.

“The QEMSCAN® automated mineralogical solution is a major extension of our traditional instrument business. The potential market is huge, and we are very excited about the opportunity to offer this revolutionary solution to companies in Southern Africa. QEMSCAN® plays a vital role in understanding the mineralogy of materials, thus improving recovery rates and ultimately increasing the customer’s profitability”, he said.
